Cédrat, a typically Sicilian citrus fruit that looks like a giant lumpy lemon, is especially valuable in cologne-style fragrances because it adds a freshness that is similar to limes and lemons but tends to be much rounder and woodier (thanks to all that pith). This matters because citrus notes, while incredibly bright and uplifting, can also be a bit harsh. In Cologne Cédrat, the soft, almost sweet quality of the cédrat effectuates the smoothest of transitions from the zesty freshness at the start to the warm, woodsy tones of the fruit’s basenotes.
